We are thrilled to share that Mrs. Venetia Smith has been selected to participate in the prestigious Cultivating Elementary Mathematics Specialists (CEMS) project through the National Science Foundation!

The NSF recently awarded The University of Alabama a $1.75 million grant to support this 5-year initiative, which will develop highly effective elementary mathematics teachers and teacher leaders across Alabama. Only 18 teachers statewide were selected as “Master Teaching Fellows” after a rigorous and competitive application process — and we are proud that one of them represents our school community!

Through this program, Mrs. Smith will:
Complete seven Ed.S. courses in mathematics education and leadership;
Participate in monthly Professional Learning Communities;
Receive individualized mentoring; and
Serve as a mathematics teacher leader while continuing classroom instruction

We are incredibly proud of this accomplishment and excited about the impact this leadership development will have on our students, staff, and school community.

Join us in celebrating this well-deserved honor!
