The NSF recently awarded The University of Alabama a $1.75 million grant to support this 5-year initiative, which will develop highly effective elementary mathematics teachers and teacher leaders across Alabama. Only 18 teachers statewide were selected as “Master Teaching Fellows” after a rigorous and competitive application process — and we are proud that one of them represents our school community!
Through this program, Mrs. Smith will:
Complete seven Ed.S. courses in mathematics education and leadership;
Participate in monthly Professional Learning Communities;
Receive individualized mentoring; and
Serve as a mathematics teacher leader while continuing classroom instruction
We are incredibly proud of this accomplishment and excited about the impact this leadership development will have on our students, staff, and school community.
Join us in celebrating this well-deserved honor!
Ms. William’s 5th-grade class conducted an experiment to see what happens when cold air meets warm air. ❄️🌡️
Shoutout to Landon for creating an amazing water collection and filtration system for his science project! 💧🔬

She sets a positive example for her peers by following expectations, helping classmates when needed, and maintaining a positive attitude toward learning. Laurynn's willingness to lead by example makes her a strong role model and a valued member of our school community.

Many MCPSS schools are observing Black History Month with special programs and activities throughout February. In celebration of this important time, our school will host a Black History Celebration Day on Thursday, February 26th.
Students will participate in meaningful activities that honor and recognize the contributions, achievements, and impact of African Americans in history and society. This day will be a wonderful opportunity for learning, reflection, and celebration.

Ms. Byrd’s Kindergarten scientists had SO much fun predicting and testing what would happen when they dropped candy hearts into soda!
Hands-on learning + big smiles = a GREAT day in Kindergarten! 💙
